Vermont or Bust! - Day 1

Yesterday and today the sky was gray and overcast, we even saw a few droplets of rain. We like to think that Las Vegas was so sad to see us go, that it was crying. I was surprised that I was sad to leave Vegas, but when I really think about it, I think that I will miss the people I have made friends with in Vegas more than the city itself. Bandit was sad to leave Vegas too and even shed a few tears.
As we were heading out of Vegas we had to cross over the Hoover Dam. Who would have thought that at 11am on a normal Tuesday morning, traffic would have been so bad. It probably took us an hour just to get across the dam. We also hit rush hour traffic in Phoenix and we sat in stop n' go traffic for probably another hour.

We have made the trip from Las Vegas to Phoenix, Arizona many times with out any problems. But not this time, we had to go on an "Adventure". We were listening to a book on tape and I guess we just weren't paying attention because we missed our turn and didn't even realize it for a while. We ended up adding twenty to thirty minutes on to our trip because we tried to get lost.

The scenic veiw was not very exciting, but we did see a bunch of dust/crop tornadoes. I'm not sure what they are called, but they look like miniature, skinny tornadoes in big open fields. I tried to take a picture but it didn't turn out. Below is a picture of Red Rock, not the one in Nevada near Vegas, but I guess there is one in Arizona, at least that is what the sign said.
With all the airlines going out of business and the extra charges they have added, Brian thought this picture was funny. It was in the middle of no where and it looks like a cemetery for planes no longer being used, put in to early retirement.
The dogs were really good on the trip. They cuddled in the back seat and slept most of the trip.

When we finally made it to our hotel, we got the dogs and our suitcases in to the room just in time for it to pour rain outside. We also saw thunder and heard lightning. This scared Buddy and when we took him outside to go to the bathroom, he got spooked and slipped out of his leash, luckily Brian was able to catch him. Poor little guy, but he really scared us, we thought he was going to run into the road and get lost in Tucson.

It almost doesn't feel like we really moved from Las Vegas, it feels more like we are on a vacation and will be back soon.

It really is a graveyard for old airplanes. There are hundreds of airplanes out there. Both commercial and military jets. If you had time, it is a neat place to tour (for 2 hrs maybe), in the winter when it's cooler.
Sounds like a great start for your adventure! Keep the posts going.
