This past weekend wasn't so much a sightseeing adventure as it was a task orientated adventure. Typically in a normal sized city you might have to drive across town to go to the DMV, but here in Vermont you have to drive to the state capitol to take care of your DMV business. We spent all day Friday in Montpelier getting our Vermont Drivers License and the RAV4 registered. It was a very simple task, it was nothing like those DMV horror stories you hear of in other places. The clerk was very nice and friendly and we are now officially Vermonters! The Capitol of Vermont, Montpelier, is a small-cozy-little city (there really aren't any big cities in Vermont) we drove around the town within a few minutes and decided that may be the extent of our visits to Montpelier. Not that we didn't think the town was nice, there just didn't seem to be much to visit and there are many other places we need to take adventures to. Just a little side note on Montpelier, it is the smallest state capitol in the United States.
The weekend prior to taking up residence as a Vermonter we took our adventure to a town that both of us fell in love with, Stowe Vermont. We did not originally plan on spending our entire adventure in Stowe. Nicole had it all mapped out; we would drive to Stowe and see the town, ride the Gondola to the top of the ski resort, eat at a unique cafe, visit the Van Trapp Family Lodge, and then head to Waterbury and tour the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory. She also had planned for us to tour a Chocolate Factory, a Cheese Factory, and an Apple Cider Factory. We loved Stowe so much that we almost didn't make it many of the other stops on Nicole's list. One of the best parts about the trip was that same weekend there was an event called "British Invasion," we were told it is the biggest British Car show in the United States. We didn't go to the show because we saw hundreds of old British Cars just from spending the day in the town.
We had intended on riding the Gondola to the top of the mountain to get some good views in, but it was expensive to ride and decided we could get our good views some other way. Somehow we came across a road that led up to an area we had not anticipated, Smugglers Notch, it seemed like a rock scramblers paradise. Neither one of us was prepared to do any serious cliff hanging, so we just jumped around a few rocks. It was a lot of fun, even when the rude Park Ranger yelled at us for making a wrong turn!
We made it to the Van Trapp Family Lodge a few minutes before they closed and then headed home. We were a little disappointed that we didn't get to tour any of the factories, but we decided it was ok because then we would have another excuse to come back to Stowe. However on our ride home we stopped at the Ben & Jerry's for a quick Ice Cream Cone!
OK, maybe that wasn't entirely a brief version of our adventures but it was a condensed version. Despite all of Brian and Nicole's Excellent Adventures I do find time to get my studies in. As a matter of fact Nicole thinks I am reading my Energy Law book right now (don't let her know I was blogging). I would go crazy if I didn't take time away from my studies to blog, watch TV, play games (a friend taught us how to play poker), and go on our adventures.
I have already spent too much of my study time blogging so I will have to give my Law School Post update another time…
