Portland! ... Maine

We have not been on any adventures lately, so we decided to take a weekend trip to Portland, Maine before Brian gets really busy with finals. It was a rainy, foggy, cold weekend, but we had a lot of fun. We were exhausted by the time we got home. Here are some photos from our trip.
We stopped at a Welcome center right as we entered Maine and Brian thought this was hilarious. Bears can't read, so this message had to be for humans.
Have you been Barrel Picking lately?
Me, Brian and Scott. This pictures shows just how foggy it was on our first day of the adventure.
I'm on a very shaky little bridge. I'm not sure what this area was, but it was fun. We walked along a rocky path in the middle of what looked like a lake and then we crossed this bridge to a big forest area with a bunch of hiking paths, but by the time we got to the hiking paths it had started to down pour. We still had the rest of the day left so we didn't want to get too wet and we headed back to the car.
We stopped at Nubble light house, but the fog was so thick you could barely make out the light house or the light shining from it.
I thought light houses were supposed to shine really bright so that ships would know where land was during thick fog?!?
Funny little Sea Shack
We finaly made it to Portland, Maine. Our 'Maine' mission was to find somewhere to eat lobster. After walking around the city checking out all the restaurants, we came upon this restaurant tavern. They had the best priced lobster we could find and was more fitting for a first time lobster-eating experience. It was messy and a fancy restaurant just would not have suited well.
Yummm!!!
After filling our bellies with lobster we walked around the city a little more looking for a movie theatre so that we could go see James Bond (he also falls under the yummy category)!
The next day, the weather was much better, the sun even showed it's face a couple of times. We found Spring Point Light, a light house that we could walk right up to. It was amazing how the rocks were laid with a flat side facing up. I guessed that the light house was built years before the rock pathway.
At this light house there was also a wall that apeared to be some sort of protective barrier where cannons stuck through window type openings. This is a picture of one of those openings.
Brian takes most of the pictures when we are on adventures, that is why most of the pictures have me in them. He is really slow and I must admit, I do get impatient with him, but look at the great pictures he gets - the surf splashing up in front of the Portland Head Light House.
A picture with Brian in it :)

We also found some really cool abandoned mansions. This reminds me of the movies that are set in Mid-Evil times (although I doubt this mansion is that old).

Our adventures can never end with out us getting lost at least once. We got talking and not paying attention and we past our exit by 30 minutes! I normally welcome getting lost, but this time I was upset and things got stressful, we only had a small time window to pick up the dogs from the kennel and if we missed it we would have to pay for another night in the kennel and I didn't want to do that. Thanks to Scott's navigational skills and Brian's quick driving, we made it back just in time to get the pups!
