So it's getting very cold here in Vermont. I don't really mind the cold, probably because I don't stay outside for very long at one time. We keep our house at 60 degrees because oil heat is very expensive, but both Brian and I both have our own electric space heater, so we use those a lot. Bandit especially likes my space heater, he will lay right in front of it and fall asleep. I think it might be one of his favorite things to do.
I can handle this cold a lot better than the heat in Vegas. You can not escape heat. I remember some days it was so hot in Vegas that even with the A/C pumping at 70 degrees, the thermostat would never make it to that temperature. It really bothered me when I would try to go on an interview. It didn't matter if the interview was a 5 minute car ride or a half hour car ride away, by the time I walked outside to my car, got in and driving I was drenched in sweat. Not just beads of sweat, but dripping, running down my face sweat. I'm sure it was not a very good first impression when you show up with your hair stuck to your face with sweat.
But back to the cold, recently the cold has been bothering my feet. I just can't keep them warm. I have tried wearing wool socks, short socks, long socks, two pairs of regular socks, but nothing seems to work. Regular socks are just too cold, wool socks make my feet sweat when I'm inside and then when I go outside my feet get cold because the socks are now wet. I've tried wearing boots of all kinds, boots with fur (not real fur), rain boots, snow boots, regular boots. Nothing seems to work very well, either the boots leak water to my socks or with the rain boots my feet froze but didn't get wet. The boots with fur seem to work the best, but they don't really go with my work attire. I think another problem is that most of my shoes are warm weather shoes. All of my shoes either have no back or they are really thin Converse type shoes. I have started wearing my boots with the fur to work and then changing into regular shoes and then wearing the boots when I leave to go home. Is this what people who live in cold places do, or is there some secret I'm missing? Maybe there is a certain type of shoe I should buy. -- Any advice?
Updates:
The elliptical machine. I think we will wait a couple of months before making any decisions or purchase because: 1. I want to see if I can stick with a work out routine everyday for two months. 2. We can save money for this item. 3. We want to wait for people to give up their New Year's resolutions and maybe sell their machines. 4. Give us time to travel to a city with actual stores so that we can test out the different machines and decide what we really want.
Kickboxing. So far, I'm doing really good with the workouts, I have done it everyday for a whole week. The kickboxing DVD I have is really kicking my butt, it's a lot harder than it looks.
The Snow. We got a couple more inches of snow the night I posted the blog about snow. We are also getting snow flakes right now - not a lot but a little dusting. I like it when it snows, it means the temperatures out side have warmed up a little. When it's negative whatever degree outside it is usually sunny and bright. When the temperatures warm up, it is usually cloudy and probably dropping some snow flakes.

I can definitely say that is what I do and I know a lot of people who do that with shoes. I brought a pair of work shoes into work so I don't have to schlep them back and forth every day (and inevitably forget them on a day I have an important meeting) I also have an extra pair of socks because during the year (not winter) i walk through puddles and stuff and I don't like to sit in wet socks all day :-) When are you coming to visit me? This weekend would be good, or next!
I totally agree. I would much rather be somewhere it is cold than hot. I always said, there are only so many clothes you can take off, and not everyone wants to see me naked :) And where do I end up? Good ol' Alabamy!!!
Well I don't envy you at all. It has been cold enough for me and the dogs here in Texas. Try to stay warm!
Usually you would have winter shoes for the outside cold and change into more functional shoes for indoors. Also if you keep the feet well moisturized they tend to absorb heat better.
